Lions having 'productive' talks with Suh's agent

If Detroit Lions team president Tom Lewand is concerned about negotiations with the agent for defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, he isn't letting on.

To the contrary, Lewand said, per the Detroit News on Monday night, that contract extension talks with agent Jimmy Sexton are going well and have been productive.

“Ndamukong is a very intelligent guy, very thoughtful,” Lewand said. “He took his time selecting a new representative and he (hired) Jimmy Sexton, a very accomplished agent in his own right. I have a lot of confidence in Jimmy and I have a lot of confidence in Ndamukong.

“It’s been my experience that when a player says he wants to be here and we have indicated we want to keep him around, we have a good track record of getting something done. When that happens I don’t know. The timing is less important than the outcome.”

Meanwhile, Suh is skipping voluntary workouts.

“The rules are what they say they are — it’s voluntary,” Lions coach Jim Caldwell said. “Obviously, from a coaching standpoint, we do this for a living so we’d like every minute of every player every day, just to get our system in place. But he’s a very thoughtful individual and he has life extremely planned out.”
