Victor Hedman is a Norris Trophy winner.

The Tampa Bay Lightning star was named the NHL’s top defenseman for the 2017-18 season at the league’s award showcase on Wednesday.

This is just the second time Hedman has been nominated for the award, and the first time the Swedish defenseman has won the trophy. He finished ahead of P.K. Subban and Drew Doughty in voting.

Hedman is widely regarded as one of the better two-way defensemen in the NHL. The nine-year pro was tied for the league lead amongst defenseman with 17 goals and finished fifth with 63 points.

It is fitting that the Bolts’ blueliner is taking home the trophy. While Subban and Doughty both enjoyed successful seasons, Hedman finished with more goals, points and a higher plus-minus than either of the two finalists. His plus-32 ranked second amongst all defensemen and were a personal best for him in a single season.

Since 2013, Hedman is third among rearguards in points with 275.
