Lightning hold off Penguins' game-tying attempt after video review

It’s not hyperbolic to say the Tampa Bay Lightning escaped by mere inches against the Pittsburgh Penguins, holding on for a 3-2 thrilling victory.

After taking the lead on a Victor Hedman laser with 56 seconds remaining in the third period, Tampa Bay emerged with one of the best finishes of the early season thus far.

Pittsburgh submitted a valiant effort to try to send the game into overtime and Kris Letang almost notched the equalizer with the clock expiring.

Andrei Vasilevskiy had other plans, however, robbing Letang of the would-be tying goal with an excellent glove save.

The play was sent for an extensive video review and after the examination, it was determined that Vasilevskiy’s glove never crossed the line, upholding the 3-2 victory.

We’re sure Penguins fans will be replaying this video over and over again and will conclude that Letang scored, but it won’t change the result, unfortunately. For the Lightning, they’ll be sure to thank their star goaltender for quite literally preserving the win.
