Lewis Hamilton Is Already Working on a Formula One Retirement Plan

From Road & Track

Lewis Hamilton is one of the best drivers in Formula One right now, and but apparently he's already got retirement on his mind.

Speaking with Motorsport.com on the subject, he said, "Generally when I think about [retirement], I have this three-year contract. I am hoping that I have another three or four years after that."

But that's also dependent on how competitive he remains because, as he admits, it's hard to know when to go out. Especially if you're trying to go out on top.

"We all are greedy, we always want more," Hamilton said when asked if he would quit after winning a world title. "You want to stay in and get it again. So, I think it is a very hard thing to do and I am yet to know that I have the maturity and strength to walk away from something that I loved since five years old. Only time will tell."

As for what he will do after retirement, Hamilton hasn't decided yet.

"I can only imagine that I will have withdrawal symptoms when I take a year off at the end and I will probably still want to race, but who knows?" he said. "It could be completely opposite. I might not, I might just disappear for life!

Ideally, though, he'd like to imitate Moto GP's Valentino Rossi and stay in F1 as long as he can remain one of the best.

"Valentino is towards one of the older riders now, but he still has the ability to be at the top," said Hamilton. "He still has the ability to do so, and so I hope that I am in the similar position towards the end of my career."
