Lenny Dykstra arrested after allegedly threatening to kill his Uber driver

Lenny Dykstra, the baseball bad boy who starred for New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies in the ’80s and ’90s, is in trouble once again. Dykstra was arrested early Wednesday after police in New Jersey allege he threatened to kill his Uber driver while carrying a variety of drugs.

The driver ran from the car and told the officers that moments earlier he had picked up Dykstra in Linden for a scheduled fare. Dykstra tried to change the destination, and when the driver refused, Dykstra allegedly put a weapon to his head and threatened to kill him, police said.

No weapon was located, but police said they did recover a quantity of cocaine, MDMA and marijuana among Dykstra’s belongings.

What were Dykstra’s past troubles?

The post-baseball career of Dykstra, 55, has been full of problems. Most notably, he was sentenced to three years in prison in 2012 for grand theft auto and filing a false financial statement. But he served just six and a half months of his sentence. Since getting out, he’s maintained his outspoken personality and wrote a book titled “House of Nails: A Memoir of Life on the Edge,” which was released in 2016.

Dykstra has declared bankruptcy, been to rehab, admitted to using steroids – his post-baseball life has basically been a BINGO card of bad life decisions.

What’s Dykstra saying about it?

Lots, actually. Never one to be muzzled, Dykstra is sending out a number of odd and cryptic Twitter replies to people about the situation, including quoting Bobby Brown and Taylor Swift songs.

What’s next in this case?

For this latest incident, Dykstra was charged with third-degree making terroristic threats and various drug offenses, according to The Courier Post. He was released but is due back in court next month.
