Add this as a strike for Houston in the LeBron James sweepstakes.

The rumors are running fast and furious around the NBA’s most prized upcoming free agent, and the Akron Beacon Journal’s Marla Ridenour doesn’t believe James will end up in Houston to challenge the mantle of the Golden State Warriors.

“I heard this from his own lips when we were in Houston this season,” Ridenour told ESPN Radio (around the 37:00 mark here). “He does not like Houston as a city. So, that would require him moving to a place that he’s not crazy about.”

James to Rockets sounds like a contender

While a core of James, James Harden and Chris Paul — if the Rockets were able to re-sign Paul — sounds like a group that could give the Warriors a true test in the West, if James truly doesn’t like Houston, that situation sounds like a tough sell at this stage of his career.

After overruling his family’s desire to remain in Miami when he returned to Cleveland, James has said his family will have more of a voice this time in his upcoming free agency.

“The one thing that I’ve always done is considered, obviously, my family,” James said after losing the NBA Finals. Understanding especially where my boys are at this point in their age. They were a lot younger the last time I made a decision like this four years ago. I’ve got a teenage boy, a pre-teen and a little girl that wasn’t around as well.”

Dwyane Wade thinks lifestyle trumps basketball for James

On Sunday, his close friend Dwyane Wade said that he believed family and lifestyle will trump basketball in James’ free-agent decision.

None of that information adds up James taking his family to a place he doesn’t like in spite of it being potentially the most lucrative basketball decision.
