At least one person is dead and another injured after a man opened fire at a Fred Meyer grocery store in Richland, Washington, on Monday and fled the scene.

Police say they’re on the lookout for a white male, likely in his 30s, who is presumed to be armed and dangerous, likely with a handgun.

Cpt. Chris Lee with the Richland Police Department said at a press conference Monday afternoon that, prior to the shooting, the suspect and the slain victim had “some sort of interaction” but could not describe the nature of that conversation.

At a second press conference later Monday, police also said they have identified the suspect but would didn’t release his name “due to ongoing apprehension efforts.”

A witness who was in the store at the time told the station he heard “around a dozen shots” fired.

Photos of the suspect circulated by police show an individual wearing a black vest with a long-sleeve gray and black plaid shirt underneath. Police are unsure if he left on foot or in a vehicle.

The Richland Police Department said in a statement they received a call about yelling and possible gunshots at the store at 11:03 a.m., with officers arriving on scene at 11:04 a.m. One person has died, and another is hospitalized.

“Again, the suspect is still at large,” the department said. “Please avoid the area.”
