LeBron James says he 'should have more than four' MVP awards

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James doesn't need any more end-of-season awards to bolster his Hall of Fame case, but he believes he deserves more. Following Thursday's 116-105 win over the Charlotte Hornets, James told reporters he "should have more than four" MVP awards.

James was asked whether he ever thinks about if he should have won more MVP awards. James declined to give a specific number, but said four is not enough.

James added that he doesn't "sit around and think about it." Whether that's true is up for debate. Maybe James hasn't thought about the exact number of MVPs he should have, but he was pretty vocal about Giannis Antetokounmpo winning the award over him after the 2019-20 NBA season. James said he was "pissed off" by the voting at the time.

That marked the fourth time in his career James has finished second in the MVP voting. He lost out to James Harden during the 2017-18 season, Kevin Durant during the 2013-14 season and Steve Nash during the 2005-06 season.

LeBron James' legacy is already set

It's fine for James to be driven by those "failures," though it's not like he needs to win more MVPs to secure his legacy. James will already go down as one of the best — if not the best — players in NBA history.

At this point in his career, James is mostly chasing Michael Jordan's MVPs and championships. One more MVP award would tie James with Jordan. James needs two more rings to match Jordan's six championships.

Even without those accomplishments, one can make the case for James over Jordan. But if James were to match, or surpass Jordan's numbers in those areas, the argument for James would be a lot stronger.
