Kylian Mbappe presentation LIVE! Latest updates as Real Madrid star holds press conference after unveiling

Kylian Mbappe presentation - LIVE!

Kylian Mbappe was officially presented as a Real Madrid player this morning, speaking in perfect Spanish as he addressed a sold-out Santiago Bernabeu. The Frenchman said he was “one happy guy” after completing a move he has “dreamed” of since he was a child, and then held his first press conference at the club.

The 25-year-old announced last month that he would join Real but has endured a frustrating few weeks since then, breaking his nose while playing for France at Euro 2024 and then growing increasingly fed up with having to wear a mask. He opted against it for the semi-final clash against Spain, but could not inspire France to victory as Les Blues were narrowly beaten.

Mbappe scored only once at the Euros, a penalty against Poland, but he will hope to hit the ground running in a Real shirt, after the club decided he would not be made available for the France squad at the Paris Olympics. The forward has instead turned his full focus to his new club, ahead of making his debut later in pre-season. Follow all the latest updates with Standard Sport’s LIVE blog below!

A long old press conference comes to an end.

Mbappe repeatedly stated how much of a dream it is to play for Real Madrid, how much it means to him and his family to finally be at the club.

He said he doesn’t mind what position he plays, and no decision has yet been made on whether he will undergo nose surgery.

Also still to be decided whether Mbappe will go on Real’s pre-season tour to the USA.

14:19 , Matt Verri

“Before stepping onto the pitch, I watched the initial part of the presentation on the screen.

“I watched the videos and it was a great experience. I wanted to enjoy this moment as much as I can.

“It’s been a wonderful day for me and my family.”

Will you go on pre-season tour to USA?

14:15 , Matt Verri

“We’ll see what the manager says and how he goes about it.

“If the club wants me there I’ll go. If they don’t want me there I’ll do whatever they ask me to.”

When did you know you were joining?

14:12 , Matt Verri

“I’m not in the [WhatsApp] group yet, but pretty sure they’ll send me an invitation soon!

“The exact moment I knew 100% when I was signing for Real Madrid was today, signing the contract. You saw the images, That’s when I knew it was for real.”

14:10 , Matt Verri

“I don’t want to come here, score a goal and go home.

“I want to adapt to the team... I want to live my dream 100%.”

Support from fans

14:07 , Matt Verri

“Today is the day I will never forget.

“I knew it was going to be special but it surpassed my expectations.

“When I have been here in Spain, all the fans showed me a lot of affection. All I can say is I’m very grateful to them, it’s a mutual feeling.”

When did you learn Spanish?

14:06 , Matt Verri

“I knew that one day I wanted to play for Real Madrid. Obviously I knew that I needed to learn Spanish, this is very important.

“I really wanted to learn it. It helped me to improve and I also had some Spanish managers and team-mates, so I could really practice with them.

“I wasn’t afraid of making mistakes, I wanted to learn as much as possible. That’s how I learned.

“I know I still have to improve and I want to.”

Did you want No10 shirt?

14:02 , Matt Verri

“Luka Modric is this club’s legend. I’m really happy about wearing No9.

“My number is not really something I care about.... I can play with No22, No29 or No48. It doesn’t make any difference.

“I’m really honoured to be wearing No9 but it’s definitely not a priority for me.”

Why did you not join Real Madrid sooner?

14:01 , Matt Verri

“Many things can happen in football.

“When I was successful, people would encourage me to be more successful. When I had dips in form, I was told not to dwell on them.

“There are always highs and lows, I just feel so privileged to here.”

Mbappe: I want to win Champions League and Ballon d'Or

14:00 , Matt Verri

“Of course this is the best club to achieve something like that.

“I need to adapt to the system, the group. Other things will arrive naturally.

“Obviously I want to win the Champions League, Ballon d’Or and other titles. But right now I’m focussed on the nearer goals and the only thing I have on my mind is to adapt to the team and help my team-mates.”

Message to Cristiano Ronaldo

13:58 , Matt Verri

“He’s always given me advice, advised me I should work hard and show my passion for the game.

“It was a tough experience for him at the latest Euros, but he is a huge legend and I would like to send him a big hug.”

Mbappe: This is biggest club in the world

13:57 , Matt Verri

“I’m aware that I’m joining a club with an amazing history. A huge responsibility to wear the shirt but also a huge privilege.

“To be able to wear the shirt and one day say I was a Real Madrid player is a huge honour.

“I have huge respect for PSG but Real Madrid is the biggest club in the world. I’m so pleased to be here, and I hope to live up to everyone’s expectations, the club’s history and not disappoint.”

Will you have surgery on nose?

13:54 , Matt Verri

“I’ve passed the medical check this morning. We will look at the situation together, see what we do about it.

“We are yet to take the decision. Now these things don’t just depend on me, but I’ll definitely make sure I’m ready for when the team needs me.

“I really want to play that first game in a Real Madrid shirt, but this question should probably be for the manager.”

Support from Real Madrid fans

13:53 , Matt Verri

“Absolutely logical that sometimes people give you love and the situation might change at some points.

“The support I have received has been incredible. I haven’t played for Real Madrid yet and already have that love and affection, it’s an incredible feeling.

“It makes me want to help this team as much as I can. I’m grateful for the confidence they have shown in me and I will do my best to give them back that affection and live up to their expectations.”

Conversations with Real Madrid players?

13:50

“My French team-mates would always tell me: ‘Come to Real Madrid’.

“Vinicius has also sent me a lot of messages, because I knew him before.

“When you know that a lot of Real Madrid players want you here, it’s a great feeling.”

Worried move would never happen?

13:47 , Matt Verri

“Not really. I was really sure that this moment would eventually arrive.

“I had other options from other clubs, but I always told them one thing. If I ever leave Paris, it will be because I join Real Madrid.

“I didn’t want to speculate about playing for other teams. I always had a clear idea that I wanted to play for Real Madrid and would play for Real Madrid.”

13:46 , Matt Verri

“It’s such a privilege for a player to play for a club he is a fan of.”

Also says that Zinedine Zidane was one of the reasons he started supporting Real Madrid, and he also idolised Cristiano Ronaldo growing up.

Who are you most excited to play with?

13:44 , Matt Verri

“I talked to the manager this morning, but it wasn’t anything specific. We just spoke about this moment, about Real Madrid in general.

“Vinicius, Rodrygo and the rest of the players are great players. I don’t have any preferences, I’m just excited to play here.

“I met some of my team-mates today and was really thrilled.”

13:43 , Matt Verri

“I was under a lot of pressure here this morning... I didn’t want to be nervous and prevent me from enjoying the experience.

“The support and love I received from the fans here is absolutely amazing. I’m really thankful for all that support and messages I’ve received.”

Favourite position?

13:41 , Matt Verri

“I’ll play wherever the manager tells me to.

“In Paris I played in all three positions up front, in Monaco as well. The most important thing is to be as physically fit as possible and mentally strong.

“For me, I’m not really concerned about the exact position. The most important thing is to play and help Real Madrid.”

Goals for this season?

13:40 , Matt Verri

“I joined this club with huge ambition but also humility. I want to win as many titles as I can, but the most important thing is to help the team and contribute important things. This is an amazing team, all I want is to be as helpful as possible.

“I want to enjoy my life and to enjoy every single second here. This has been my dream all my life and I really want to be able to tell these stories to my kids one day.”

13:39 , Matt Verri

“The exact moment [I decided to join] took place when I was a kid. First it was a dream, then it become a goal.

“I knew that my destiny was to play for Real Madrid and that one day I would achieve that goal.

“Now I’m so lucky and thank God the dream came true. Now I want to make the most of the experience and enjoy it as much as I can.”

Mbappe: I have new dreams

13:38 , Matt Verri

“It’s been a dream since I was a kid... this dream came true but it doesn’t end here.

“Now that I’m a Real Madrid player, I have new dreams and new goals.

“I’m really happy and I can’t wait to play my first game as a Real Madrid player.”

13:36 , Matt Verri

“It’s an honour and a huge privilege to be a Real Madrid player.

“I did expect a great day today but it surpassed my expectations, therefore I would like to thank Real Madrid.”

Here we go!

13:35 , Matt Verri

Kylian Mbappe has swapped the Real Madrid kit for a suit and he has sat down for a first press conference as a Real Madrid player.

Quotes coming up...

Moment he walked out...

13:30 , Matt Verri

Some noise as the Frenchman strolled out onto the Santiago Bernabeu pitch!

13:17 , Matt Verri

Still no sign of Kylian Mbappe turning up for the press conference.

But, for those who haven’t had enough of the double thumbs up pose from the Frenchman... you’re in luck.

Hot off the press!

13:04 , Matt Verri

Sure Kylian Mbappe won’t be giving away this shirt in a hurry...

Ronaldo: Mbappe can light up Bernabeu

12:54

Kylian Mbappe’s presentation was very similar to Cristiano Ronaldo’s in 2009, when the Portuguese star also counted the fans into a ‘Hala Madrid’ shout.

Can expect plenty of comparisons over the next few years, and Ronaldo believes Mbappe will “light up” the Bernabeu after his move to Real Madrid.

Al Nassr striker Ronaldo, who chipped in with just the 581 goal contributions in 438 games for Real between 2009 and 2018, wrote took to Instagram last month after Mbappe’s move was confirmed.

“My turn to [watch]. Excited to see you light up the Bernabeu.”

It's been a long time coming

12:25 , Matt Verri

Kylian Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid has felt inevitable for a number of years, particularly in 2022 before he then signed a new deal at PSG.

The Frenchman has been waiting for this day even longer than that, having had his first taste of Real as a 12-year-old.

Mbappe press conference next up!

12:16 , Matt Verri

One final wave and Mbappe walks down the tunnel.

Still more to come from the new Real Madrid star, he will hold a press conference very shortly.

Stick with us for that!

Hard work for Mbappe...

12:13

Back to posing - double thumbs up, more badge kissing.

Every time he looks around, there’s a man stood there with another three balls.

Not allowed to leave until all 80,000 fans get one. Camera zooms in on one supporter in tears after getting his hands on one of them.

12:10 , Matt Verri

Mbappe continuing his laps of the pitch, endless supply of footballs being handed to him to give out.

Real Madrid promised a sold-out Bernabeu crowd - it certainly is. And nobody has left.

Kylian Mbappe poses for photographs

12:06 , Matt Verri

Huge amount of photographers in attendance, as you’d expect.

Mbappe has kissed the badge, stood alongside Zidane, ticking of all the various photos you’d expect.

Now he’s handed a few footballs, booting some into the stands and then finding a couple of children to pass them to.

12:01 , Matt Verri

And Mbappe finishes it off by counting down to a big ‘Hala Madrid’.

Fair to say that went down well.

12:00 , Matt Verri

“I’d also like to send a message to all the kids that are here today.

“I was just like you, I had this dream and today it comes true. I can tell you that if you have the passion, you can achieve your dreams.

“I’m very excited. The fact that I’m talking so much means that it’s important for me to be here today.

“This is the club of my dreams and the biggest club in the history of world football.”

11:59 , Matt Verri

Mbappe going through this in perfect Spanish, and then more huge cheers as he kisses the badge.

“Now I have another dream. That’s a dream of living up to this club’s history.

“I can promise that I will give it my all for this club and for this badge.”

11:57 , Matt Verri

“I want to thank the president Florentino Perez, for always having great confidence in me.

“There have been a lot of things going on, but we’ve done it. Thank you very much.

“I’d also like to thank all those people who have put in a great effort for me to be able to be here today, who have done so much for me to enjoy this moment.

“My family are so happy here, I can see my mum crying.”

Kylian Mbappe speaks to Real Madrid fans

11:56 , Matt Verri

“Good afternoon everyone. I’m going to try to speak Spanish.

“It’s such an incredible feeling to be here, just incredible. I spent endless nights dreaming about one day playing for Real Madrid, and today I’m one happy guy.”

11:54 , Matt Verri

“Today Kylian Mbappe has fulfilled his dream.

“Kylian, welcome home. Welcome to Real Madrid.”

11:53 , Matt Verri

Perez is rattling through Mbappe’s achievements, seemingly every single individual trophy he has won too. Also talks about what he can bring to Real Madrid.

He’s already signed, Florentino. Don’t need to pitch to him now.

Perez addresses Mbappe

11:52 , Matt Verri

“This love that you felt for Real Madrid, and you identifying with this club since your childhood, made it possible for you to be here and to overcome those obstacles on the way to your dream.”

11:49 , Matt Verri

Incredible noise as Mbappe talks a slow walk up to the stage.

Big hug for Perez and for Zidane - and now he’ll address the fans.

Oh, not yet. Perez has a bit more to get off his chest.

Kylian Mbappe walks out onto Bernabeu pitch

11:47 , Matt Verri

“Now the moment has come to welcome an exceptional player, who is joining Real Madrid to continue winning titles.

“We are welcoming a player who is fulfilling his dreams today. Let’s welcome Kylian Mbappe.”

And here he is! Mbappe, in a full Real Madrid kit, walks out onto the Bernabeu pitch.

11:46 , Matt Verri

“This stadium will continue to enjoy the best players in the world. We will remember this day forever.”

And now plenty of nice words towards Zinedine Zidane, which sparks cheers around the stadiums.

“Manager has gone down in history due to winning three European titles.”

11:45 , Matt Verri

“All our hard work has only one objective - to make your dreams come true year after year.

“Our players have achieved some amazing things. Some of them have won six European cups.

“You know what Real Madrid is about. We want you to continue to build our history.”

11:41 , Matt Verri

“This is the most loved club across the globe, with 600 million supporting it.

“All of these people are united by the club’s values.

“Humility, companionship, self-improvement, solidarity and never giving up.”

Perez speaks as Mbappe unveiled

11:40 , Matt Verri

“It’s a huge satisfaction for us to be here today and to present a new Real Madrid player.

“Due to the remodelling of the stadium, some of the previous presentations could not take place here.

“But today we can do it here and it’s a very exciting occasion for us.”

11:39 , Matt Verri

Florentino Perez is back on his feet, more waving as he walks up onto the stage.

He’s going to say a few words before Mbappe joins him.

More montages...

11:33 , Matt Verri

Well we’re all now up to date on our Real Madrid history, so it’s time for a Kylian Mbappe montage.

A few PSG and Monaco goals in there, but unsurprisingly plenty of footage of him wearing Real Madrid kits as a child.

11:30

Zidane, Bale, Ronaldo, Ramos, Ronaldo again, Ronaldo again, Ronaldo again, Benzema (via Karius), Vinicius, Carvajal...

And we’re all caught up.

Montage time

11:27 , Matt Verri

We’re running through the history of Real Madrid, one European title at a time.

Kylian Mbappe couldn’t win the Champions League with PSG - you’d be very surprised if he finished his career at Real Madrid without doing so.

11:22 , Matt Verri

Florentino Perez strides out onto the pitch, Zinedine Zidane just behind him.

NOW we’re ready.

11:20 , Matt Verri

Drone flying around the pitch, over the trophies on the stage... and then we’re back to the crowd shots.

Two fans just yawned. Think we’ve had time to get every supporter on the big screen now.

Oh, here we go!

Big cheers as it cuts to a shot of Mbappe in the dressing room, wearing a Real Madrid shirt.

11:13 , Matt Verri

Raul, manager of Real Madrid Castilla, has taken his seat on the pitch. Few more people who look important have joined him, so you’d think we’re close.

There best be some pretty special kick-ups and very enthusiastic waving after all this.

And now we wait...

11:05 , Matt Verri

Presentation was due to begin at 11am, but no sign of the main man on the pitch yet.

Four minutes late and counting, clearly spending too long in the trophy room.

Crowd amusing themselves by waving at the camera - we’re about ten minutes away from a Mexican Wave, I’d say.

Statement from Real Madrid

10:57 , Matt Verri

“Real Madrid player Kylian Mbappé went to the Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital, where he passed the medical examination prior to his introduction as a new Real Madrid player.”

Just as well, would have been a bit awkward had he failed it...

More dominance for Real Madrid?

10:47 , Matt Verri

As Borussia Dortmund became the latest team to discover last month, facing Real Madrid in a European final almost always ends the same way.

Real have won the Champions League six times in the past 11 years and last lost a European final in 1983.

Getting the job done when it matters most is what they do, and their stronghold over the continent is set to tighten further with Kylian Mbappe’s arrival

Mbappe has been the natural heir to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as the superstar of world football, and the prospect of him linking up with Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr will scare the rest of Europe.

The France captain is the most devastating forward in the world. His 364 goal contributions in 308 matches for PSG will now be added to a front three featuring Vinicius and Rodrygo.

Bellingham is set for a deeper role at Madrid next season, with Brazilian prodigy Endrick also joining in a £51million deal from Palmeiras.

Those five players have an average age under 22 and Madrid could, perhaps should, dominate European football for the next decade. Their combined potential is frightening.

Not long to go!

10:39

Bernabeu filling up, big cheers whenever Mbappe appears on the screens around the stadium.

It’s set to be a sell-out crowd, with fans quickly snatching up the tickets, which were given out for free.

This is what it looked like outside the Bernabeu more than an hour ago - good day to be selling scarves.

Contracts signed...

10:30 , Matt Verri

Kylian Mbappe and president Florentino Perez have been putting pen to paper as they finalise the contracts.Medical done, contract signed... now just some kick-ups on the pitch and Mbappe will be good to go.

'Dream come true' for Mbappe

10:21 , Matt Verri

This is a day that has been weeks, months, even years in the making.

Kylian Mbappe was expected to join Real Madrid in the summer of 2022, only to then agree a new two-year deal at PSG.

Real do now finally have their man, though, as confirmed at the start of last month.

“A dream come true,” Mbappe posted on social media.

“So happy and proud to join the club of my dream. Nobody can understand how excited I am right now.

“Can’t wait to see you, Madridistas, and thanks for your unbelievable support.”

Mbappe completes medical!

10:13 , Matt Verri

First item on the agenda today has been ticked off.

Kylian Mbappe underwent his medical checks earlier this morning - nose aside it appears that was all fine.

He’s now on his way to the Bernabeu for the presentation.

Mbappe: Euro 2024 was a failure

10:06 , Matt Verri

A frustrated Kylian Mbappe admitted that his Euro 2024 campaign was “a failure” after France suffered an agonising semi-final exit at the hands of Spain.

Defeat capped the end of a disappointing tournament for France, who finished behind Austria in Group D and needed own goals to see off both the Austrians and Belgium as they also relied on penalties to oust Portugal in the quarter-finals.

Before Randal Kolo Muani’s header against Spain, Mbappe had been the only French player to find the back of the net at the tournament with his penalty in the 1-1 draw with Poland, which followed a broken nose suffered against Austria that led to him donning a protective face mask that he ditched against Spain.

That was the new Real Madrid superstar’s first and only European Championship goal to date, compared with the 12 he has already scored at World Cups in his career.

“In football you’re good or not good. I wasn’t good,” Mbappe said. “My Euros was a failure.

“I wanted to be European champion… I will now go on holiday. I will rest well, it will do me a lot of good, then I will get ready to start a new life. There's a lot to do.”

When will Kylian Mbappe make debut?

09:50 , Matt Verri

Kylian Mbappe is likely to be given some time off after reaching the semi-finals at Euro 2024 with France, a tournament he described as a “failure”.

Mbappe scored just one goal, a penalty against Poland, and was left wearing a mask after breaking his nose.

It remains to be seen when he will make a first appearance in a Real Madrid shirt.

His new club face AC Milan, Barcelona and Chelsea in pre-season friendlies in the USA, but reports suggest Mbappe is unlikely to be involved in the tour.

He could instead make his debut in the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta on August 14.

Mbappe signs five-year deal

09:26 , Matt Verri

Kylian Mbappe’s move from Paris Saint-Germain to Real Madrid, the worst kept secret in all of football, was sealed last month.

The French striker left his country’s Euro 2024 camp to fly to the Santiago Bernabeu and officially announce his switch at the start of June.

While the deal will go down as a free transfer, he is reportedly set to earn £250,000-a-week on a five-year contract in the Spanish capital along with a hefty £128million signing-on fee.

The signing has been a goal of Real club president Florentino Perez for several years.
