Kyle Kuzma loves the extra attention playing with LeBron James in Los Angeles, good or bad

Playing with LeBron James is a tough task — as everything that goes on around the superstar is put under a microscope.

Playing with James on the Los Angeles Lakers — one of the most historic and well-covered teams in the league — is an even tougher task.

Kyle Kuzma, however, said he isn’t fazed by that fact.

While the attention James brought to Southern California is definitely a new challenge for many of the young players on the Lakers’ roster, Kuzma said he welcomes the spotlight. If it wasn’t there, he said, he’d be doing something wrong.

“Obviously the national media loves the Lakers,” Kuzma said on SiriusXM NBA Radio on Friday. “Everybody talks about it. when you add LeBron James to the mix, one of the greatest players, you know you’re going to have even more.

“For me, I wouldn’t want it any other way. I want people to talk about me, good or bad, because if you’re not, you’re not doing something right.

“I’d rather be talked about bad in L.A. than play in Orlando and not get talked about.”

Kuzma has averaged 19.1 points and 5.6 rebounds in 53 games for the Lakers this season — his second in the league.

The 23-year-old’s mindset works when he’s playing for the Lakers — where just about everything he does will take a back seat to James. Openly enjoying that the extra attention and everything else that comes with playing for a team like the Lakers isn’t something many players admit to, either — especially not so soon after joining the league.

His time in Los Angeles, however, may be running out.

Kuzma was one of many names the Lakers floated when offering trade packages to the New Orleans Pelicans for Anthony Davis. While that deal wasn’t made before the trade deadline earlier this month, the Lakers will undoubtedly try again to land the star this summer. While a lot can happen between then and now, Kuzma could easily be involved in that trade in some capacity — which could potentially send him to a team in a smaller market like New Orleans or Orlando.

If that’s the case, Kuzma will have to find a new way to keep people talking about him.
