Kurt Busch confirms he's not driving the No. 41 car in 2019

No, Kurt Busch is not re-signing with Stewart-Haas Racing.

Busch made his departure from the team official Sunday evening when he said in a tweet that he would not be returning to SHR in 2019. Busch has driven for the team since 2014.

Busch’s departure is not unexpected. He signed a one-year extension with SHR before the 2018 season and is widely expected to take over the No. 1 car at Chip Ganassi Racing in 2019.

The 2004 champion was a playoff-caliber driver with SHR and it’ll be intriguing to see if he will be at CGR in 2019. Assuming, of course, that’s where he ends up. Busch finished seventh in the 2018 standings and was also seventh in 2016.

Busch won six races in five seasons at Stewart-Haas. He has 30 career wins in 648 starts. If he joins Ganassi he will be replacing Jamie McMurray and team with Kyle Larson, who also made the playoffs in 2018.
