Former University of Kansas point guard Aaron Miles, who has worked as an assistant coach of the Boston Celtics the past two seasons, will join the coaching staff of the NBA’s Houston Rockets in a similar role, the Boston Globe reported Thursday.

Miles, 40, worked for new Rockets head coach Ime Udoka in Boston during the 2021-22 season. Miles was an assistant for Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla this past season. Mazzulla took over for Udoka, who was fired in September.

The Globe has reported that former Boston assistants Ben Sullivan and Mike Moser also will join Udoka and Miles in Houston as assistants. Former Brooklyn assistant Royal Ivey also is headed to Boston as an assistant coach.

Miles, KU’s all-time assist leader who played for the Jayhawks from 2001 to 2005, worked as the Golden State Warriors’ player development coach from 2019 until 2021.

Miles also was an assistant coach at Florida Gulf Coast University and head coach for the Santa Cruz Warriors of the NBA G League.

The Portland, Oregon native played for the Golden State Warriors of the NBA in 2005-06, then played in the G League as well as France, Greece and Russia.

Miles worked on Bill Self’s coaching staff at KU in 2015-16 as assistant director of student-athlete development. That led to his being an assistant on former KU assistant Joe Dooley’s FGCU coaching staff. Miles played four seasons at KU, two for Roy Williams then his final two for Self.
