Knicks hire former Cavs coach David Blatt as consultant

As Mike Miller continues to coach with an interim tag, the New York Knicks have hired a former NBA head coach for their front office.

The Knicks announced on Wednesday that David Blatt is joining the team as an operations consultant.

In a statement released by the Knicks, Blatt also announced that he is retiring from coaching.

“I look forward to the next step in my career as I officially retire from coaching and pursue other opportunities in basketball,” Blatt wrote.

Blatt coached the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2014 to 2016. The Cavaliers fired him midway through their 2016 championship season and replaced him with Tyronn Lue.

Blatt has spent much of his career coaching in Europe and most recently coached for Olympiacos in Greece before mutually parting ways with the team in October two months after he announced he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

The Knicks have operated with Miller as interim head coach since firing David Fizdale on Dec. 6.
