It seems that actions from 2019 can follow you into the new year, for Kurtis MacDermid at least.

The Los Angeles Kings defenseman laid a questionable hit on Philadelphia’s Ivan Provorov on Tuesday night and will face a NHL Player Safety hearing on Friday as a result.

Here’s the play in question. MacDermid steps up to hit a rushing Provorov and ends up elbowing him directly in the head, then spins into the Flyers’ bench.

This angle shows the contact to Provorov’s head. No penalty was called on the play and Provorov was slow to get up but remained in the game.

MacDermid has four points and 29 penalty minutes through 26 games with the Kings this season.
