Kent St. coach Paul Haynes taking medical leave

Kent St. announced Sunday night that coach Paul Haynes is taking a medical leave of absence.

Haynes is expected to be away from the team for 2-3 weeks and offensive coordinator Don Treadwell will serve as the team’s offensive coordinator.

“We fully support head coach Paul Haynes during his leave,” Kent State. athletic director Joel Nielsen said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Haynes family as we look forward to his return to Kent State.”

Haynes, 47 is entering his fifth season as Kent State’s coach. He’s got a career record of 12-35 with the team and Kent State was 3-9 in 2016. He was a walk-on linebacker at Kent State in 1987 and recorded 440 tackles in his career with the school.

The Golden Flashes open at Clemson on Saturday.
