Kendrys Morales makes Blue Jays history with homers in 7 straight

There’s hot and then there’s ‘Kendrys-Morales-at-the-plate-this-week’ hot.

With his two-run homer in the bottom of the third inning against the Philadelphia Phillies Sunday afternoon, the 35-year-old Cuban slugger has now gone yard in seven straight games.

Morales entered the contest in a tie with Jose Cruz Jr. for the franchise mark. With one swing of the bat, he now sits alone.

He’ll look to keep things rolling tomorrow against the Orioles in Baltimore. With a home run in that one, he’ll tie the major league record for most consecutive games with a dinger.

Ken Griffey Jr., Dale Long and Don Mattingly have each strung together eight straight games with a home run in their careers.

The accomplishment is a bright spot in what has been a pretty dull season for the Toronto Blue Jays, and Morales himself. Furthermore, his run has given fans reason to keep watching the squad down the stretch despite little to play for.

Toronto entered Sunday’s game with a record of 60-69, and sit 17.5 games out of the second wild card spot in the American League.
