Kelvin Gastelum Faces Nate Marquardt at UFC 188 in Mexico City

Kelvin Gastelum Suspended for UFC 205 Weight Issues

For the first time since winning The Ultimate Fighter 17, Kelvin Gastelum (10-1) will return to the middleweight division to face Nate Marquardt (33-14-2) at UFC 188 in Mexico City.

UFC officials announced the match-up on Tuesday.

Gestelum, currently coaching The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America 2, is coming off his first career loss. The move back to the middleweight division comes at the behest of UFC officials after the 23-year-old failed to make weight in two of his last three welterweight bouts.

Marquardt returned to the 185-pound weight class in 2014 after spending two years competing at a welterweight. The former Strikeforce champion has gone 1-1 since returning to the middleweight division. He is coming off a loss to Brad Tavares in his last outing on Jan. 3.

UFC 188 takes place at the Arena Ciudad de México in Mexico City on June 13 and is headlined by a heavyweight title fight between champion Cain Velasquez and interim titleholder Fabrico Werdum.
