Keith Yandle fined for embellishment vs. Phaneuf, Senators

The NHL announced on Thursday that Florida Panthers defenseman Keith Yandle has been fined $2,000 for embellishing a slash from Ottawa Senators defenseman Dion Phaneuf on Jan. 31. The Panthers won the game, 6-5.

As the video shows, Phaneuf slashed the stick of Yandle, and then Yandle dropped to one knee and took his glove off his stick to feign injury, and then he turned around and slashed Phaneuf’s stick.

Both players received slashing penalties, but now the NHL has decided that Yandle deserved a little something extra.

Yandle was issued a formal warning from the NHL on Nov. 3 for a dive or embellishment against the New Jersey Devils, so this was his second citation of the season – hence the fine. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

Next time he does this it’s THREE thousand dollars out of his pocket!

Yandle is making $7.5 million this season.
