Keegan-Michael Key, a Netflix show & a Kelce brother: Who’s coming to Penn State’s game vs OSU?

Penn State is hosting the biggest college football game of the weekend — and it has the guest list to prove it.

Comedian Keegan-Michael Key, a Penn State alum, was announced Thursday afternoon as the guest picker for ESPN College GameDay. But he’s not the only big name planning to attend: Former Philadelphia Eagle Jason Kelce said during his podcast he’d be there. And Netflix show MeatEater, which focuses on wild game and the outdoors, will be in Happy Valley for its own tailgate tour.

The No. 3 Nittany Lions will take on the No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes at noon Saturday in the weekend’s only game that features two top-10 opponents. Both ESPN College GameDay and Fox Big Noon Kickoff will be on hand for the Big Ten matchup — and more than 100,000 screaming fans will descend on Beaver Stadium.

Some expressed disappointment over social media about Key’s selection as the guest picker, mostly because he’s been here several times before. He was Penn State’s picker on College GameDay in both 2018 and 2023, served as the Homecoming Grand Marshal in 2015 and twice impersonated James Franklin at the annual Blue-White Game (2016, 2018).

He is one of the most visible Penn State alums as an actor, comedian, producer and writer. He’s appeared in more than 50 movies, 60 TV shows and three stage plays.

Jason Kelce, who co-hosts a podcast with his brother Travis, is on the opposite end of the spectrum. The seven-time Pro Bowler said Wednesday he has never before been to Happy Valley.

“I’ve gone fly-fishing in the area, but never been to State College,” he said in a clip, before adding: “I’m kind of excited about this for multiple reasons.”

Added his brother Travis, the Kansas City tight end dating Taylor Swift: “It’s your kinda college. You’d like that place.”

It’s unknown exactly why Jason Kelce, a member of the “Monday Night Countdown” pregame crew, might be in town. But it seems as if he’s trying to make the most out of his trip. When a Penn State fan tweeted at him Thursday about the prospect of pouring a raw egg into a beer and chugging it, Jason responded: “Welp, when and where?”

Former Penn State players will likely be in the stadium — the nearby Pittsburgh Steelers are on bye — and elite high school recruits always attend this matchup. But Netflix subscribers, and fans of the show “MeatEater,” should also see some familiar faces.

Several members of “MeatEater” will be on hand to greet fans of the show at the ORV Lot, behind the Ag Arena on Park Avenue in the north parking zone. They’ll have bison chili, outdoor games, local trivia and some show gear.

Crew members expected to be in attendance include Janis Putelis, Seth Morris and Brody Henderson. Morris and Henderson are both PSU alums.

Former President Donald Trump was also originally planning to attend Saturday’s game. But a Penn State spokesperson recently confirmed that’s no longer the case. No reason was given for the change of plans.
