Kathy Griffin 'begged' for her cameo on 'You,' one of her first roles since the Trump photo scandal

Kathy Griffin says her life has changed since she posed with a fake severed Trump head in 2017, but that doesn't mean she's backing down from the president.

In an interview with USA Today, the comedian, who has previously said she was "blacklisted" from Hollywood for the photo scandal, revealed that she "begged" for her recent 90-second cameo on Netflix's "You."

"I straight up was just begging for five lines on something that would be seen by people that had nothing to do with Trump – nothing that was controversial," Griffin told the outlet.

Her short role on the hit Netflix series was "a fantastic gift," she said, because "it was a day where I got to be on planet normal."

In 2017, after photos emerged of Griffin posing with a fake severed head of President Trump, the repercussions were swift: She lost her spot co-hosting CNN's annual New Year’s Eve show, was added to the no-fly list and was investigated by the Department of Justice.

"They were seeing if they could charge me with conspiracy to assassinate the president of the United States, which holds a lifetime sentence," she told BuzzFeed News last year.

Griffin told USA Today that neither she nor her life has never been the same since the controversy. The comedian is no longer represented by an agent and has started using social media to try to land roles, which is "one of the things that I became proactive about after the Trump scandal."

"It's kind of like Hollywood feels like I have something that they're going to catch ... people don't want to get Kathy Griffin-ed," she added.

Nonetheless, the 59-year-old said she doesn't have plans to stop speaking out against Trump and his administration, "and they know it."

"While the picture has caused me a lot of duress it's also made me global. Everybody knows the crazy red-haired lady from the photo," she said. "It has made me more fearless and I really feel strongly that whoever comes at me, they have to understand I've prevailed against the president of the United States."
