Kate Middleton Is Seen in a New, Seemingly Unaltered Photo With Prince William

Just a day after releasing a clearly photoshopped pic of herself with her kids, Kate Middleton has been photographed in another grainy car moment, this one even less clear than her sunglasses pic with her mom, Carole Middleton. (Here’s what we know for sure for sure.)

In the new picture, taken March 11, 2024, the Princess of Wales sits next to her husband in the back seat of an SUV, en route to a “private appointment,” according to The Daily Mail. The prince was heading to Westminster Abbey for the annual Commonwealth Day service. You can see the picture here.

Interestingly, the camera person caught the couple from William’s side, which is to say, you can clearly see him looking at his phone. You can also see a sliver of a face of a woman next to him. And that’s Kate Middleton! But also…not much of her.

Questions regarding the princess’s condition and whereabouts have been swirling all year, ever since it was announced that she would be taking some time away from work for an unspecified “abdominal surgery,” followed by a two-week hospital stay and recovery time at home. And while it’s totally understandable that she’d want privacy, the lack of even a perfunctory “hey, thanks for the well-wishes, I’m doing great!” message fueled theories that she was, in fact, not doing great.

After it became readily apparent that the image of a smiling, happy princess that was released for Mother’s Day was heavily edited—so much so that photo agencies released the rare and drastic “kill notice”—the princess released a statement, saying, “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C.” But if that’s the case, why not upload an unedited version? How is this car pic better?
