Karl-Anthony Towns: "I thought I was going to retire there. I thought it was going to be the place I called home my whole career, and then after. Timberwolves team president Tim Connelly, made the unexpected journey to Towns’ house, where Towns was accompanied by three friends and his father, to personally inform him of the trade. Towns expressed his gratitude for Connelly’s gesture, stating, “I didn’t get called,” Towns says. “Tim [Connelly] told me to my face that I was traded … It was gangster, I ain’t gon’ lie… It’s a tough situation regardless of what would have happened. But the fact that it happened that way, I got to give him respect.” -via Open Court Basketball / October 19, 2024

“I didn't get called. Tim [Connelly] told me to my face that I was traded,” Towns added. “He came to my house. I respect it. Honestly, it's a tough situation regardless of what would have happened. But, the fact that it happened that way, I gotta give him respect. It was me, three of my closest friends, and my pops. So, shoutout to him. “He came to the house by himself with five dudes there who could have just started spazzing out and crashed out. So, I gotta give him respect for that, for sure.” -via Clutch Points / October 18, 2024

His mother, Jacqueline Cruz-Towns, died from COVID-19 at just 60 years old in April 2020. She was responsible for not only the Dominican bloodline, but also exposing Towns to the culture that was important to his decision to represent the nation at the 2023 World Cup. Just last month, Towns announced plans to build a basketball facility in his mother’s hometown of Santiago. He called it a tribute to Jacqueline. “She was such an amazing lady. She was wonderful. She is what you would call a true Dominican mom, with all the whistles,” said Felipe Lopez, the former St. John’s star who met the Towns family over a decade ago. -via New York Post / October 16, 2024
