Kansas football’s home game against BYU on Saturday is officially a sellout, KU Athletics announced Tuesday.

David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium has a capacity of 47,233, based off attendance of sellouts in 2022, so 47,000-plus fans will be expected in Lawrence on Saturday.

The Jayhawks have played two home games this year, with a reported attendance of 41,091 vs. Missouri State and 45,809 vs. Illinois.

This sellout marks the fourth time Kansas (3-0) has sold out a game under coach Lance Leipold. KU’s last sellout came in October 2022, when Kansas hosted ESPN’s College GameDay and took on TCU.

The Jayhawks are coming off a narrow 31-24 victory over Nevada, while the Cougars defeated Arkansas 38-31 last week. KU’s sellout against BYU will be its earliest in a season since 2009, when KU faced Duke on Sept. 19.

Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels urged fans to come to the game on Tuesday shortly before the sellout was announced.

“We need the fans out there,” Daniels said. “I mean, they make a big difference in how the game goes. When we went out there in Nevada, their crowd was out there. That was my first time since last year being able to feel the difference between being at a home game and being at an away game.

“And the difference between the crowd being with you and against you is definitely there. I would definitely say pack The Booth. We need you guys. It’s the Big 12 opener,” Daniels said.

Kickoff between Kansas and BYU (3-0) is set for 2:30 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.

The matchup will be the Big 12 Conference opener for both teams and the Cougars’ first Big 12 game since joining in July. It will be the second game between the squads — KU played BYU on Christmas Day in the Aloha Bowl in 1992, a contest in which the Glen Mason-coached Jayhawks won 23-20.

After Saturday’s game, Kansas will travel to Austin, Texas, to face Texas on Saturday, Sept. 30.
