Jose Aldo Targets Conor McGregor for UFC 205 in New York

Current interim UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo wants nothing more than to erase the “interim” designation in his title. To do that, he needs to rematch current champion Conor McGregor, the man who beat him in 13 seconds less than a year ago.

In speaking to the media recently in Rio de Janeiro, according to MMAFighting.com's Guilherme Cruz, Aldo said that he believes, if McGregor loses to Nate Diaz in their rematch at UFC 202, he will face the champion when the UFC debuts in New York in November.

“If he loses (to Diaz), it’s highly likely that they put us to fight on November 12 at Madison Square Garden. The Irish community is big over there,” said Aldo. “But if he wins, I think they will do a third fight between them and ruin all my plans.”

UFC president Dana White has said that, no matter the outcome of the rematch with Diaz, McGregor would defend his featherweight belt in his next fight following UFC 202.

Although he feels that he's destined for a trilogy fight with Diaz, McGregor echoed White's sentiment.

“I’ll beat Nate, get that win back, dominate my division again, and we’ll talk for the trilogy fight with Nate,” McGregor said at the UFC 202 kickoff press conference.

Aldo, however, feels that if McGregor evens the score with Diaz there could be a change of plans with the UFC not wanting to miss out on a trilogy bout between McGregor and Diaz.

“(McGregor) has to lose (to Diaz). Otherwise, they will do a third fight,” Aldo said. “I’m rooting for him to lose, of course. If he wins, they will do another rematch with Nate, and that’s bad. He has to lose. He has to lose. He will lose.”
