Jose Aldo Likely to Remain as UFC 149 Healdiner

It looks like Canadian fans are likely to get a glimpse of UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo after all.

Despite UFC president Dana White, when he announced the move of Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen 2 to UFC 148 in Las Vegas, saying that Aldo’s next title defense could possibly be moved from UFC 149 in Calgary to UFC 147 in Brazil, it looks like that won’t be the case.

Aldo is expected to face Erik Koch in his next fight, but the fight now looks like it will remain on the UFC 149 fight card in Calgary. SporTV in Brazil first reported the move back to UFC 149, and independent MMAWeekly.com sources backed the likelihood of the fight remaining in Calgary.

UFC 147 is still expected to take place in late June in Brazil, but the question now is: who will headline the fight card? The most likely candidate, if Aldo vs. Koch does remain on the Calgary card, would be Jon Jones vs. Dan Henderson.

Following Jones’ victory over Rashad Evans at UFC 145 in Atlanta, White declared that Henderson would be next up for Jones, but fell short of naming a date or location.

With all of the UFC’s other champions already lined up for a fight or incapacitated, Jones vs. Henderson is about the only fight that makes sense to headline in Brazil, unless UFC officials are willing to promote a non-title fight between TUF: Brasil coaches Vitor Belort and Wanderlei Silva to main event status.
