Jonathan Van Ness is known for his role as the overzealous and gorgeous groomer on Netflix’s reboot of Queer Eye. And although he seems pretty perfect himself, he just took to Instagram to share an insecurity that he’s overcoming.

One of the Fab Five favorites, Van Ness posted a photo of himself in just a pair of Calvin Klein undies. Holding his robe wide open, he shows off his chest and praises himself for leaving the photo unretouched. Why? Because he has psoriasis.

“Sickeningly Gorge,” Van Ness wrote under his photo, “I left my psoriasis & my body unretouched, why should I dim my shine henny?” Topping the caption off with the hashtag “#mensbeauty.” Since his job is all about embracing the elegance of men, people are feeling super-inspired by the vulnerable and uplifting post.

“You’ve inspired me and my boyfriend that taking care of yourself isn’t vain, it’s showing yourself love and being proud of that love!” one commenter replied. Another wrote, “As a fellow psoriasis sufferer, all I can say is Psoriasis is Psexy! Love the skin you are in.”

A number of replies similarly came from those who suffer from the autoimmune disease as well, which presents itself as red patchy flare-ups on the skin. Many of these people feel alone in coming to terms with the condition, but hearing from a public figure like Van Ness can help.

“You have psoriasis?!” one Instagram user exclaimed. “Me too and sometimes it’s hard to feel ‘100’ when I have a flare up, thanks for showing your shine psoriasis and all!”

Van Ness is not the only celebrity who has been open about dealing with psoriasis; both Kim Kardashian and Cyndi Lauper have been outspoken about having it themselves. These examples of seemingly perfect people talking about overcoming the skin condition certainly continues a positive conversation.
