Jon Jones Says He Has ‘Maybe 3’ Fights Left at Light Heavyweight

Former UFC champion Jon Jones is expected to return to competition this summer, but says he may only have three fights left in the 205-pound division.

Jones was stripped of the title last April and suspended by the fight promotion for his involvement in a hit-and-run incident. On Monday, “Bones” answered questions from fans on Twitter.

When asked how many fights he has left in the light heavyweight division, Jones' answer was a bit of a surprise.

Questioned whom those three fights would be against, Jones replied, Daniel Cormier, Anthony Johnson and Alexander Gustafsson.

He defeated Cormier at UFC 182 in January 2015, his last outing before being stripped of the belt. He defeated Gustafsson at UFC 165 in September 2013 by unanimous decision. The back-and-forth fight earned 2013 Fight of the Year. He was preparing to face Johnson at UFC 187 in May 2015 when the hit-and-run incident occurred. Cormier stepped in as his replacement and won the vacant light heavyweight title by submitting Johnson in the third round by rear-naked choke.

Jones has indicated in the past that he eventually plans to go up to the heavyweight division. He had defended his light heavyweight belt a record eight times before being stripped of the title.
