Jon Jones Loses Reebok Endorsement, Effective Immediately

The news keeps getting worse for now-former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, as Reebok has terminated its endorsement contract with him, effective immediately.

Reebok releasing a statement to MMAWeekly.com saying, “In light of recent events, we have made the decision to terminate our contract with Jon Jones, effective immediately.”

Jones was one of a handful of fighters that had an individual endorsement deal with Reebok separate from the agreement the athletic apparel company has with the UFC to provide fighter uniforms and fan apparel. Notable fighters with individual Reebok deals include Ronda Rousey, Conor McGregor, and Paige VanZant, among others.

The Reebok termination was the latest blow in a 24-hour period that has seen the pound-for-pound great stripped of his light heavyweight championship, indefinitely suspended by the UFC, and removed from the UFC fighter rankings.

Jones was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run car accident in Albuquerque, N.M. on Sunday. He is accused of running a red light, smashing into one vehicle and forcing it into another vehicle.

Jones reportedly left his vehicle for a brief time, returned to grab some money out of the car and stuff it into his pockets, and then fled the scene, jumping a fence as he did so.

The driver of the car Jones allegedly slammed into was a pregnant woman who suffered a fractured arm and wrist, according to the arrest warrant later issued. There has been no word of any harm to her pregnancy.

Jones has been charged with a felony count of Knowingly Leaving the Scene of an Accident Causing Bodily Harm or Death.

The case is currently being reviewed the Bernalillo County district attorney, who has 60 days to determine whether or not to bring Jones before a grand jury.

Jones currently remains free on his own recognizance after posting a $2,500 bond on Monday night.

After stripping Jones of the title and suspending him, UFC officials enlisted Daniel Cormier to take his place in the UFC 187 main event opposite Anthony Johnson. Cormier and Johnson will now fight for the vacant championship on May 23 in Las Vegas.
