In a fabulous moment of torch passing, it's emerged that Star Wars creator George Lucas met Baby Yoda on the set of The Mandalorian.

Jon Favreau has posted the tender snap of Lucas cradling 'the child' from the series, the young, force-adept creature who became the runaway star of the Disney+ show.

Lucas hit the show's set on October 19 last year, as a special surprise birthday present to Favreau, with the director posting a shot of the pair on the day (he appears to be wearing the same shirt, though, judging by the pic from the Solo premiere above, it seems to be one of his faves).

Breaking Bad star Giancarlo Esposito, who plays Moff Gideon in the series, revealed last year that Lucas did indeed have some input into the show (Lucas’s company Industrial Light & Magic were behind the special effects after all), though quite how much, we don't know.

Though initial reviews of the series, set in the world of bounty hunters, were a mixed bag, the show appeared to hit its stride come the season finale, directed by Taika Waititi.

Pedro Pascal played the lone gunslinger in the heavily western-influenced show, with Favreau having penned all eight episodes.

A second series is already in production, with Pascal returning as the inscrutable hero, due to land in Autumn 2020.

Disney+ is set to arrive in March in the UK, and while we'll have to wait until then to see the Mandalorian's first round of escapades, perhaps we'll get the second series at the same time as the US does.
