Our readers seeking to weigh up the most up-to-date medical advice about Covid-19 will be able to join a free webinar being organised by the Royal Society of Medicine alongside the Evening Standard.

The session, during which four of the country’s leading medical experts will answer questions submitted by Londoners, will be shown on the Evening Standard YouTube channel next Tuesday.

The webinar will be hosted by Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway, whose husband Derek has been hospitalised since March after contracting Covid-19.

Ms Garraway has talked of how determined she is to ensure people are aware how serious the virus is, after family “had their lives turned upside down”. Her husband remains in intensive care after being in a coma for several months. She will be joined by Professor Robin Shattock, who is head of mucosal infection and immunity at Imperial College London, and Dr Sarah Filson, infectious diseases and microbiology specialist registrar doctor at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Also joining will be Dr Chris van Tulleken, an infectious diseases doctor at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases and University College Hospital in London, and the BBC’s leading science presenter and Dr Clare Gerada, previous chairman of the Council of the Royal College of General Practitioners.

They are expected to discuss the science and evidence behind the Covid Christmas bubble guidelines and they will also provide practical tips on how to stop any infection from spreading if your family gets together indoors, how to travel safely during the holidays and what to do and how to care for a family member in yourhousehold if they develop symptoms.

Submit your questions at https://rsm.ac/COVIDinXmas by 5pm on Wednesday.
