John Elway is savage, gets last laugh on year-and-a-half old tweet at him

I’ve always wondered how many famous people search through their Twitter mentions. Does someone like, oh, say, John Elway really scroll through them?

Apparently the answer is yes, and also: Elway has a heck of a memory.

The Denver Broncos drafted quarterback Trevor Siemian in the seventh round of the 2015 draft. It’s just a seventh-round pick, but it’s not like Broncos fans were applauding Elway for picking a relatively unknown quarterback who had seven touchdowns and 11 interceptions his senior season at Northwestern.

Well, we know where the story stands now. Siemian earned the Broncos’ starting quarterback job and is authoring a fairly unbelievable tale for the 3-0 Broncos. And not even Elway — one of the game’s legendary quarterbacks who also has a 61-22 record as general manager and is treated as a deity in Colorado — is above a little “I told you so” on social media.

Elway has deleted his simple response to a tweet from May 2, 2015 from Broncos fan @nfkrauss, but @COSportsNut captured it. This is phenomenal on so many levels:

Elway kept this one in his back pocket for more than 500 days! Elway taking time from celebrating a big win to bring some attention to a random tweet from last May is entertaining on so many levels. And imagine checking your mentions and seeing a Hall of Famer has trolled you about a tweet you probably don’t even remember.

So here’s the lesson: Don’t doubt Elway. And definitely don’t @ him if you do.
