Joel Quenneville fined $25,000 for inappropriate gesture

Chicago Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville was fined $25,000 US Friday by the NHL for inappropriate conduct during Game 1 of the team’s playoff game against the St. Louis Blues a night earlier.

The Blackhawks bench boss made an angry gesture in the second overtime of Chicago’s 4-3 triple OT loss, reacting to a call that wasn’t made in the first overtime. The non-call would’ve have given the Blackhawks a 5-on-3 power play had a penalty been issued.

The gesture was widely viewed on Twitter.

Quenneville apologized for his action, saying the gesture was a "bush-league move on my part.”
