Joel Embiid to miss Thursday's game due to finger injury, will see specialist

The Philadelphia 76ers wont have big man Joel Embiid for Thursday’s game against the Boston Celtics. Embiid will miss the contest due to a left ring finger injury. Embiid is meeting with a specialist to determine the severity of the issue, according to Serena Winters of NBCS Philly.

The 25-year-old Embiid dislocated his left ring finger in the first quarter of Monday’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Embiid initially left the contest, but eventually returned to the game with his finger wrapped. Following the game — which the 76ers won 120-113 — Embiid said it felt like he was “playing with one hand.” Despite the injury, Embiid scored 18 points and came down with 9 rebounds.

The 76ers entered the game against the Thunder on a four-game losing streak, so Embiid may have been more motivated to tough it out to pick up a win. Prior to Monday’s game, Embiid said the team’s losing streak was “taking a toll” on him.

With the win, the 76ers improved to 24-14. The team is still in good shape in the Eastern Conference despite the recent losing streak.

As long as Embiid doesn’t have to miss significant time with the injury, the 76ers should still be comfortable as they fight to secure a better playoff seed in the East.
