Joe Webb excited to be working just at quarterback

National Football Post

Joe Webb is back at quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings.

He’s No. 2 on the depth chart for the Vikings and will be the backup for Christian Ponder after he was a quarterback/wide receiver the previous two seasons.

Webb is excited to be in just one position and at quarterback, the position he played in at Alabama-Birmingham. Former coach Brad Childress moved him around and used him as a wide receiver. Coach Leslie Frazier wants to keep him in one place.

It's a great role to have," Webb told Jeremy Fowler of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "Any time you can concentrate on one position, that's always a positive.”

Frazier deployed Webb as a wide receiver, too, and had a wildcat package for him that the team called “blazer” based on the nickname of Webb’s school.

"I want to be able to do whatever I can to help the team win," Webb said. "Any chance I can get on the field, I want to help the offense move the chains and score points. But right now, I'm just focusing on quarterback."
