Joe Maddon's managerial style was influenced by an awful TV boss

Many consider Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon to be one of the best tacticians in the game. He’s smart, creative and modern-thinking in his approach on the field, and he does a good job keeping his players loose and motivated off the field.

You would think a person with those traits would have some pretty prestigious mentors, right? Well, that’s not exactly the case here. When asked who has influenced his managerial style the most, Maddon offered up an unlikely name.

Hmm … that is a puzzling answer. Michael Scott is, as you already know, the beloved boss from “The Office.”

While Scott is easily one of the best television characters of all-time, it’s tough to call him a good boss or effective leader. Sure, he had some moments but, for the most part, Scott was portrayed as inept, dumb and highly inappropriate. And that’s putting it mildly.

But just in case you needed proof, we’re here to help. For your pleasure, we combined pictures of Maddon with some of Scott’s best quotes. A quick glance at these will make it clear Maddon may want to consider better mentors.

After that last one, we’re really hoping Maddon hasn’t taken any baseball advice from Scott.
