Jimbo Fisher has heated exchange with fan after Florida State's loss to Louisville

Things are getting tense in Tallahassee.

Florida State dropped to 2-4 on the year with a 31-28 home loss to Louisville on Saturday. The Seminoles have won at least nine games in every year of the Jimbo Fisher era, so this is unfamiliar territory for FSU fans.

After the loss to the Cardinals, one FSU fan let Fisher have it as he walked off the field. Fisher came right back at him, according to a few reporters.

At the postgame news conference, Fisher admitted he probably shouldn’t have said anything.

From the Orlando Sentinel:

“It’s not frustration, just, ‘Hey, listen, be supportive,’” Fisher said of the interaction after the game. “There’s no reason to be nasty. I shouldn’t have said something. But at the same time, [I’m] defending players and people you’re with. I’m in charge of them, and I love them like a father. If they say something about your family, you take up for it.”

With only five games remaining, FSU is in serious jeopardy of not making a bowl game for the first time in 36 years. Some fans are so upset, they are calling for Fisher to be fired (just search the #FireJimbo hashtag on Twitter).

Fisher said he and his staff are going to keep pushing forward. He hopes the fans do the same.

“Are you going to be a real fan or not?” Fisher said of general fan reaction following the poor start to this season. “Just keep fighting with us. We ain’t quitting on you. Please don’t quit on us. We’re going to keep fighting, scratching, coaching and playing, and you see the heart and desire of those kids.

“I understand you’re going to get on us [coaches]. That’s part of the business. That’s part of life. I understand that. … There ain’t no quit in us either. We’re right there. We just have to find a way to get it.”

Fisher has an 80-21 overall record at Florida State, so that won’t happen. Still, it’s been really surprising, even without its starting quarterback, how underwhelming FSU has been so far this year.
