James Corden takes charge of Arsenal, invents new celebrations

Arsene Wenger has been in charge of Arsenal for over 20 years, so it’s understandable that the Frenchman might need to occasionally employ an understudy. Thankfully, “Late Late Show” host James Corden was willing to step in to lead a training session.

In a clip that appears to have been filmed during The Gunners’ preseason trip to California in July, Corden takes the team on a guided tour of Marina Del Rey – showing the likes of Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain several sites of David Schwimmer-related interest – while encouraging team spirit with some nursery rhymes.

Once at the training facility, the fervent West Ham fan puts the team through its paces, supplementing the state-of-the-art techniques that Wenger has perfected over several decades with some light stretching and shooting practise.

Perhaps Corden’s greatest contribution to the team, however, is the introduction of some revolutionary new goal celebrations. Hopefully we will see “the frying pan” and “the lawnmower” at The Emirates in the coming weeks.

Most of the players go along with the skit – Hector Bellerin’s deadpan insistence that Corden should “stick to singing in cars” is gold – and Jack Wilshere looks hilariously unimpressed. But then again, the England midfielder did leave for Bournemouth shortly after this was filmed, so maybe he was actually unimpressed.
