Jalen Ramsey tries to take down Steve Smith Sr., 'old man' gets last word

It figures that the NFL’s oldest wide receiver and one of the youngest cornerbacks didn’t see eye to eye. (And never mind the height difference, either.)

Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey is doing a lot of talking for a talented rookie, but also one who has yet to win an NFL game. His team dropped to 0-3 when Steve Smith Sr. and the Baltimore Ravens won, 19-17.

Ramsey spat fire early in his first season. Following the Week 1 loss to the Green Bay Packers, Ramsey went after Aaron Rodgers. Then this Sunday, Smith was his target. The two scrapped on the field and jawed as well, and Ramsey wanted nothing to do with it when Smith came over to have a postgame chat.

“Ya’ll tell me who got in whose head,” Ramsey said, via ESPN.com. “He came up to me after the game, you feel me? Y’all tell me who got in whose head. He’s an old man acting like that.

“Ain’t nobody worried about him. He came up to me, you know what I’m saying, on some disrespectful stuff. The game’s over with. You still mad ’cause I was locking you up? All right, go sleep on that. I ain’t trying to hear that after the game.”

Smith, who caught eight passes for 87 yards in the game (and had a crucial conversion on fourth down in the fourth quarter), naturally had a retort.

Ramsey said that the lack of respect for Smith, who is now in the NFL’s top 10 all time in receiving yards, has nothing to do with his skill.

“It is what it is,” Ramsey said. “As a player, he’s still a good player. I’ll say that about him. But I don’t respect him as a man.”
