Jacob Trouba of the Winnipeg Jets will sit for two games after he was suspended for his hit on Ottawa Senators forward Mark Stone Sunday evening.

Here’s Patrick Burke of the Department of Player Safety explaining things:

It’s the same story here as many other NHL suspensions for illegal checks to the head. Trouba made Stone’s head the main point of contact and should have taken a better angle to deliver the hit through the Senators forward’s body. A clear cut violation of Rule 48.

The two-game ban means Trouba will be donating $33,333.34 to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

Ottawa begins a four-game road trip Tuesday in New Jersey and Stone did travel with the team, according to Bruce Garrioch, but there has not been an update given on his condition.
