Four months after the former 'Wild 'N Out' star's sudden death at age 33, a medical examiner has officially ruled it an accident
Only days after Jacky Oh’s cause of death was determined, it has now been officially ruled accidental.
On Tuesday, a representative from the Miami Police Department confirmed to PEOPLE that the Wild ‘N Out star’s death had been ruled “accidental due to complications from cosmetic surgery” by the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner.
Miami PD confirmed that there will not be a criminal investigation into her May 31 death at age 33.
TMZ was the first to report the news.
This comes after the Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed to PEOPLE on Friday that the former MTV personality — born Jacklyn Smith, whose age was previously believed to be 32, but whose date of birth was listed by the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner Department as Nov. 5, 1989 — died from complications related to cosmetic surgery.
At the time of her death, a BET Media Group spokesperson said in a statement, "We are deeply saddened by the passing of Jacklyn Smith, known to the world as Jacky Oh, a talented Wild 'N Out family member whose impact will be forever treasured and missed."
"Jacky Oh was a loving friend and beloved colleague of the Wild 'N Out cast throughout five seasons," the spokesperson continued. “More importantly, she was a tremendous mother to three beautiful children."
"The BET Media Group extends our sincere condolences to the Smith family, DC Young Fly, B Simone, Nick Cannon and all friends who loved and cared for Jacky Oh during this difficult time,” their statement concluded.
Jacky Oh, who got her start on Wild ‘N Out in 2014 and was a cast member on the show for five seasons, met her longtime partner, DC Young Fly, on the Nick Cannon-hosted program in 2015.
The two share three children: Nova, Nala and Prince.
In the wake of her death, DC Young Fly, whose real name is John Whitfield, and his family shared a statement with PEOPLE: "We thank everyone for their well wishes and ask for privacy during this difficult time.”
A month later, he appeared on The Steve Harvey Morning Show and shared more about how he has been dealing with the sudden loss of his partner.
“There’s no human secret way of dealing with things, especially when real life hits you,” DC Young Fly explained. “And I think a lot of people don’t know real life — you make and create how your life can go today, but you don't know where your life is going to go tomorrow.”
He continued, “Once I learned that I can't control life and the things that surround it, but I can control my spirit — it's one thing I do got control over — I don't care about nothing.”
“Day for day, I don’t know what I’m going to do,” the comedian confessed. “I just thank God I still have my mind to figure it out.”
Also among those who paid tribute to the star was Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who met his former partner Lauren Wood through Jacky Oh. He shared a statement on behalf of her family on his Instagram Story at the time of her death.
“It is with [sad] hearts we share with you that Jacklyn aka MsJackyOh has passed away on Wednesday, May 31st 2023,” the statement read. “Our family is still processing this very tragic and unexpected loss; we ask that you please give us privacy during this time.”
Beckham Jr., 30, also shared a message about the loss on X, writing, “Everyday is a gift. Tomorrow is never promised. Rest Easy Angel. We love You.”
He continued, “Don’t take this life for granted, we’re here for the blink of an eye. Y’all plz love on your loved ones while they’re still here.”
