Jacare Takes Out Tim Boetsch, Takes Aim at Michael Bisping (UFC 208 Results)

Jacare Souza Earns $50,000 for Submitting Tim Boetsch (UFC 208 Bonuses)

Jacare Souza proved once again why he has long held a position near the top of the middleweight division with a swift victory over Tim Boetsch at UFC 208 on Saturday in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Save for a controversial loss to Yoel Romero, Souza has been on steadily propelling himself toward the middleweight title, while Boetsch has been struggling to find purchase in the Octagon. Boetsch’s struggles continued with Jacare.

From the opening bell, Souza wore his confidence, immediately taking the center of the Octagon. While Boetsch showed good movement early and stuffed Souza’s initial takedown attempt, he couldn’t deter the Brazilian.

As Boetsch seemed to settle into a groove, landing a couple heavy right hands, he got lazy with a kick, which Souza caught and used to drive him to the canvas.

Once on the floor, it was a master class in jiu-jitsu.

Souza quickly transitioned from side control to full mount. From there, he locked up Boetsch’s left arm, threw his leg over Boetsch’s head, and torqued his shoulder with a Kimura, forcing Boetsch to tap.

The victory was Souza’s fourth finish in his last five fights, solidifying his status as a top 185-pound contender, and he made no bones about the fact that he is stalking the champion.

“It’s only gonna get worse (the longer it takes),” Souza said about having to wait for his shot at the belt. “The more they frustrate me, the more I want it. (Michael) Bisping, you have to stop running.”
