Arozamena’s body was found after golfers discovered her golf bag in the fairway by itself. Her body was pulled from a pond on the course and police said she was assaulted before she was killed by Collin Daniel Richards.
Richards is charged with murder and being held on $5 million bond. He has a history of violence and was living in an area near the course. Arozamena had gone to play a round on Monday morning.
Arozamena was going to be on the field at halftime of Saturday’s game to be honored as Iowa State’s female athlete of the year. Instead, the game is a memorial. The Daily said the school’s marching band will form her initials during its performance at halftime and there will be a video tribute to her before the game. Fans are also being asked to wear yellow to the game.
My prayers go out Celia’s friends, family, and everyone affected by this terrible tragedy. If you are attending the game this Saturday, please wear yellow to honor Celia at the request of her teammates. pic.twitter.com/Z2pBHuCF6c
