Inter Milan Coach On Defensive Injury Crisis Ahead Of Champions League Clash Vs Bayer Leverkusen: ‘It Complicates Things’

Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi admits that the number of injuries in defense “complicates things” against Bayer Leverkusen.

The Nerazzurri coach spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. He said that he is nevertheless confident ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League clash.

Inter take on Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League tomorrow.

And the Nerazzurri will have to do without a number of players in the defensive and wingback positions.

First of all, Benjamin Pavard is missing. The former Bayern Munich defender will still be out for a few weeks with a thigh strain.

Meanwhile, Francesco Acerbi is yet to recover from a thigh strain of his own.

And then today, wingback Denzel Dumfries pulled out of training, This was not due to an unjury, but rather to some flu-like symptoms for the Dutchman.

Added to that is the fact that Tajon Buchanan has reportedly suffered from some muscle fatigue, and Alessandro Bastoni also had an injury scare against Parma in last Friday’s Serie A clash.

Inter Coach Inzaghi Admits Injury Crisis “Complicates Things” Vs Bayer Leverkusen

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will therefore have to work around all of the injuries to the squad.

The Nerazzurri do have a deep squad. Therefore, it is not as though the Nerazzurri coach won’t have players to select from.

However, at the moment that squad is stretched to its limits. And this affects squad rotation and creates the risk of burning out those players who are available.

Inter coach Inzaghi confirmed that “There will be some changes to the team from Friday.”

“We have some players absent as everyone does at the moment. But I have total confidence in everyone.”

Inzaghi noted that “Dumfries had a fever of 38 degrees today.”

“So he couldn’t train, or come here with us.”

“And then in defense, Benjamin Pavard and Francesco Acerbi’s absence complicate things for me.”

“But I have peace of mind as far as everyone else.”

Meanwhile, Inzaghi insisted that “We know how important this match is.”

“We’re up against a team of the highest level. They’ve won their last five matches, and in the last year and a half they’ve lost just three matches.”

“They’re on a great path,” Inzaghi said of Leverkusen.

“We’ve prepared to face them at our best.”

The Inter coach said that “We’ll have to interpret the match well.”

“Bayer are a technical team,” he noted. “They play good football, with strong, organized pressing.”

“They come at you very quickly when they lose the ball. You have to do well in both phases against them.”
