Indians fans find Ryan Merritt's wedding registry and show their gratitude

It’s been a whirlwind 48 hours for Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Ryan Merritt. He was called on to start Game 5 of the American League Championship Series, he turned in a brilliant 4.1 innings, he’s headed to the World Series, and now he has a bunch of stuff from his wedding registry.

That last thing doesn’t quite sound like it belongs, but it totally does. After Merritt shut down the Toronto Blue Jays, deliriously grateful Indians fans found the wedding registry that belongs to Merritt and his fianceé Sarah Brushaber. So they did the only thing that makes sense: they started buying things on the list. And when they talked to MLB.com’s Jordan Bastian, the couple was pretty overwhelmed by such an unexpected outpouring of generosity.

“Honestly, we didn’t really believe it at first,” Sarah said. “We just kind of thought it was out there and people knew about it, but it’s just unreal. That was just the last thing we expected to come out of this. It’s just crazy. Honestly, I can’t even comprehend that kind of support. That people not only care about Ryan’s career, but care about his personal life, is just unbelievable.”

The Indians may have won three games without Merritt, but the game he pitched got them to their first World Series 1997. So of course fans are going to be insanely grateful. But it’s rare that fans get a chance to actually demonstrate that gratitude, and Merritt’s wedding registry is giving them that chance.

And these awesomely named serving bowls are just too perfect.
