Yahoo Sports Winter tightens grip on Ontario as more snow and cold approach
The good fortune of avoiding winter’s cold and snow couldn’t last forever. January is set on ending as January should across Ontario, with multiple rounds of snow and colder temperatures on the way heading into the final full week of the month.

An active pattern locked into place will create several more opportunities for snow in Ontario heading through next week and the start of February.
Our first system is a clipper that’ll push into northwestern Ontario early in the day Friday, before reaching southern Ontario overnight Friday into Saturday morning.
This system will bring modest snowfall totals, with less than 5 cm for most areas. Folks in the traditional snowbelts around Lake Superior, Lake Huron, and Georgian Bay could expect a tad bit more, with about 5 cm of fresh snow falling through Saturday morning.
We’ll get a brief break during the day Saturday before yet another system arrives in time for Saturday night.
This system looks to be a bit more potent than the clipper it follows. We’ll see precipitation begin across southern Ontario on Saturday night, lasting through the day Sunday before tapering off as the system pulls away from the province Sunday night.
Widespread snowfall accumulations of 5-10 cm are expected, with some localized totals of 10+ cm possible. Warmer temperatures nudging in from the south could allow for some rain to mix in along the northern shores of Lake Erie, but this will be a snow event for most everyone.

This wintry setup will remain locked in place for the final days of January and into early February, as the region will be the battleground between frigid weather to the west versus mild weather to the south and east.
A couple more systems are expected to track along this boundary next week and bring more snow to the region, but the timing is still uncertain.
Frigid weather and lake-effect snow are likely late next week and weekend.
