Impaired driving case against Sabres' Ryan O'Reilly dropped

The impaired driving trial for Ryan O’Reilly was supposed to take place over two days beginning Monday but ended after only a few hours after the case was dropped. According to CTV, The Crown said there was “no reasonable prospect for conviction.”

The main witness in the case could not positively identify O’Reilly as the driver of the green Chevrolet truck that crashed into a Tim Hortons last July. The Buffalo Sabres forward had pled not guilty to charges of “driving a motor vehicle while ability impaired (alcohol) and care or control over 80 mgs.”

Prior to the crash, O’Reilly had posted an image of a 1951 green Chevy pickup on his Instagram page, which was soon deleted.

Following the crash, according to Jane Sims of The London Free Press, the witness, an employee at the 24-hour Tim Hortons, “called police and ran out. Truck was leaving quickly. She yelled that police were called. Driver yelled ‘I’ll be back.’”

The crash occurred just a week after O’Reilly inked a seven-year, $52.5 million extension with the Sabres
