Body art can be a beautiful way to express yourself. Many choose to get a tattoo that features the name of a loved one or, perhaps, an image that serves as a metaphor. For example, sailors would get swallows tattooed on themselves to represent how far they traveled and, since swallows return to the same location every year to mate and nest, to ensure their safe travel home.
Yet in one woman’s case, she’s chosen to express, with permanent ink, that she really, really loves the big-box department store chain Kmart.
A Kmart fan page on Facebook called Kmart Unhacks & Roasts has a picture of the anonymous Australian woman’s tattoo and an explanation of why she chose to get the Kmart logo permanently tattooed to her ankle.
“The story behind getting this tattoo … my Kmart addiction, which started back when I was little and would go with my nan shopping at Kmart and having lunch at [the cafe] once a week, good times… Still to this day I’m addicted [to] going to Kmart every chance I get,” the woman wrote.
The 35-year-old said she wanted for a year to get the logo tattooed on her body, but she would “chicken out.” Now, she wrote, “It’s done.” However, she wants to return to the artist to get “addict” tattooed under the logo.
The Kmart superfan also says that she doesn’t regret the tattoo at all.
Although Americans may be scratching their heads about this woman’s devotion to Kmart (Kmart filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2002 and has faced a continual decline since, including its now-parent company Sears), Kmart Australia’s parent company is Wesfarmers and hasn’t had any affiliation with the American brand in years. Kmart Australia is more akin to what one would expect from an American Target.
What logo would you get tatted onto your body forever? I’d probably pick Costco because of those free samples.
