Idaho’s largest homebuilder ready to ‘overcome the challenges’ with 600 homes in 3 months

The largest homebuilder in Idaho wants to expand.

Lofty goals shared by CBH Homes in a news release in late May indicate that the company has ambitious plans for the industry after a several-months-long slump in home sales in the Treasure Valley.

CBH has plans to put up 600 homes in the next three months, and that’s going to take some serious summer work.

“It’s a new market and a new us,” CBH Homes Vice President Ronda Conger said. “While some are concerned with the current situation and holding back, CBH has been hitting record sales and we are here to keep the momentum going.”

The only way out of the challenging real estate market is through, the company said in its release.

But in November, rising interest rates had forced the company to gradually downsize and lay off some employees, the owner and president of CBH Homes, Corey Barton, told the Idaho Statesman at the time.

Barton said the company was building fewer homes and attempting to lower costs. The pandemic had brought increased costs for building materials, and as home prices soared, fewer potential buyers were out there. Sales for newly constructed homes suffered.

So what changed?

As costs stabilized and the company worked to lower prices, things appear to be turning around, according to CBH Homes.

The homebuilder said in the news release that despite the market’s constantly shifting dynamics, it’s determined to adjust and “handle any uncertainties that arise.”

CBH Homes was the 10th largest privately held Idaho company in the Idaho Statesman’s 2022 Idaho Private 100 list published in October. It reported building 23,000 homes since its founding in 1992.

The company has about 90 homes listed for sale, a far less total than the 600 it hopes to bring on the market by the end of August.

And instead of laying off employees, as it did last fall, CBH Homes is hiring.

The company said it’s “on the hunt” for trade partners and construction managers to help ramp up its inventory. It aims to begin more construction and finish projects more quickly than ever before, Barton said.

CBH Homes also said it’s garnered a total of 430 permits this year, about 300% more than any other homebuilder in the state.

“We need your help, and we’re ready to bring you more work,” Barton said in the news release. “Together, we can overcome the challenges of the market and accomplish extraordinary things.”
