Hornets place LaMelo Ball, 3 others in NBA's COVID health and safety protocols

The Charlotte Hornets could be extremely short-handed for their next couple games. The team placed four players — including standout guard LaMelo Ball — in the NBA's health and safety protocols Saturday.

Ball, Jalen McDaniels, Mason Plumlee and Terry Rozier were all placed in the protocols, the team announced.

The Hornets did not reveal whether any player on the team tested positive for COVID-19.

It's unclear how long the team will be without each player. If any of those players tested positive for COVID-19, they will have to miss a minimum of 10 days unless they turn in two negative COVID-19 tests within a 24-hour window.

The Hornets will recall multiple players from the G League to cover their absences.

The Hornets are the latest team to deal with an outbreak in recent days. The Chicago Bulls, who the Hornets played on Monday, have now lost two players to health and safety protocols.

Ball has averaged 20 points and 8.3 assists per game so far this season, his second with the Hornets.
