Hometown four-star basketball prospect reacts to offer from Lamont Paris’ Gamecocks

Korie Corbett’s visit to South Carolina on Tuesday ended with a scholarship offer.

Lamont Paris and the Gamecocks offered the Class of 2026 four-star Ridge View basketball guard after an unofficial visit to the school.

“It means so much knowing that the work I have been putting in is getting noticed, especially by my hometown team,” Corbett told The State. “I’ve been watching their games since I was about 7 years old. I think Coach Paris is a great guy and he loves how competitive I am as a player and how good of a feel I have for the game.”

Corbett is the top-ranked prospect in South Carolina for the Class of 2026 by the 247Sports and On3 recruiting rankings and in the top 100 nationally by both recruiting services. His offer list includes South Carolina State, Bethune-Cookman, Ole Miss and California. He will take an official visit to Ole Miss this weekend.

The Gamecocks have shown interest in Corbett and visited Ridge View last month. Corbett also took an unofficial visit for a USC football game earlier this fall.

But on Tuesday, it was a time to get to know the coaching staff even more.

“I sat down and had a really good talk plan on going back in the future to do more,” Corbett said. “... They love my feel for the game and how good of a teammate I am. They just kept telling me to work on developing my jumper.”

Last season, Corbett was an all-state selection and averaged 16 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 2.1 assists in helping the Blazers to the Class 4A state championship. He had 18 points in the state title win over Riverside.

Ridge View finished nationally ranked in several polls, including No. 22 by ESPN. The Blazers will be making the move back up to Class 5A Division I this year.

The Gamecocks have four basketball commitments for Class of 2025 but none yet for the 2026 class. USC has done a great job lately with in-state talent and have eight players from the state currently on the roster.
